Two Projects, A Bracing Reality Check & My Epitaph

That sounds like the beginning to a really bad joke, doesn't it?
First off: Our two projects.

Here's Bug's first tied quilt. She did 90% of this herself, and she did a great job. Now I've just got to get the edging finished so we can take it to the L.D.S. Humanitarian Center. She told me last night that she wants to make sure and hug it a lot before we drop it off so the little boy or girl who gets it knows there's lots of love in it. Could anything be cuter? I do, however, think I've created a monster. The quilt was off the frame for, oh, maybe 3 seconds before she was grabbing more fabric. We'll put one on at the end of FHE tonight, I think.

My project is a purely selfish project for home. I made one of these afghans for Bri and Adam for Christmas and they almost had to pry it out of my hands. So I'm trying to get one done for us, just in time for swimsuit season! Yeah me!

Second: my bracing reality check. In the midst of my projects last week I found out my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It's totally small and operable and they haven't even mentioned chemo or radiation so no one's getting too excited just yet, but I now officially have a big red target right on top of my head. Her mother died from breast cancer, two of my dad's sisters have had it (and both beat it). Anyway you look at it, genetics has it in for me. So I told DH I'm going to have to make some serious lifestyle changes, unless he likes the idea of raising three kids by himself. I now officially give all of you permission to bug me about taking much better care of myself! It made me realize that fancy clothes, a nice car, all of that, really won't mean anything if you get a diagnosis like that. Don't let the cost or your fears of doctors stop you from taking proper care of yourself!

Lastly: Cute Cassi tagged me last week for an exercise to describe yourself in six words. I really had to think about this one. So, if my kids are really cheap and I have a really, really small tombstone, I think I'd have to describe what drives me every day: my love for my family and friends. My six words are ETERNAL COMPANION, MOTHER, DAUGHTER, SISTER, FRIEND. This was an interesting way to look at my life because it really forces you to get the core of who you are. I'm not going to tag anyone specifically, but if any of you want to try this out, send me a link!

I hope you all have a marvelous week. Stay healthy and happy!

Thanks for sharing that Juju. I have a really bad family history of cancer as well (Hallstrom and Mckinlay side). Thanks for the motivation to take better care of myself.
Your mom will be in my prayers!

So much to comment on. First, so sorry to hear about your beautiful Mom--I will really be praying for her. Second, I love that Emma. Both for getting the crafty bug and for her compassionate nature--what a sweetheart. Finally, we all need to take better care of ourselves. I support you 100%!

Oh, Julianne, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I am glad that she has a good prognosis...and that you are there to help her when she needs it. That cute Emma...what a sweet compassionate spirit she has. I am so happy that you are helping her develop those traits through meaningful projects. I am also happy that you are making a beautiful afghan for yourself! It is beautiful!

Julianne, I thought I had left a comment days ago, but I'm just realizing that wasn't the case! I'm so, so sorry to hear about your mom. I, too, am praying for her and hope everything is OK. Please send her our best! Also, I highly recommend your beautiful afghan you made us, so keep at it with yours. :)
